Doubles, the quiet strength
Touch, angles and net anticipation make Rafael a sought-after doubles partner on the Obsidian Tour. His doubles ranking of No. 38 currently sits eight spots above his singles mark — a gap he cheerfully calls “temporary, in both directions.”

Season Narrative
2026: a season of two halves
On paper, 18–18 looks like a shrug. Watched closely, it reads like a story with a turn in the middle.
The spring was heavy going: early exits against flat-hitting baseliners who rushed the slice before it could bite, and a ranking that drifted from its October 2025 high of No. 33 down to No. 46. Rafael and coach Tiago Morel responded not by adding power, but by adding patience — deeper return positions, more shape on the first ball, and a stricter rule about when the drop shot is allowed to appear.
The turn came on grass. At the Vantora Grass Challenge in June, the low bounce made his skidding backhand slice genuinely unplayable for three rounds, and the quarterfinal run — his best grass result to date — steadied the season. Add a career-best doubles ranking of No. 38 built on a 62–48 record, and the second half has a clear brief: convert craft into wins on the autumn hard courts, and start the climb back toward the top 35.
